uwk was founded in 1992 by ute wieczorek-king. mission Regardless of whether courses
are one-to-one or group courses, language or coaching sessions, Ute and
her carefully chosen team of experienced tutors work on the philosophy
that the individual learner and their needs are always paramount. They
aim to inspire and empower learners and
provide them with the tools and resources for a continuous and sustained
process of learning and development. They have always had one
objective: to create a learning environment that would provide clients
with an innovative, stimulating, and ultimately rewarding experience.
background/experience As a director of
uwk, Ute Wieczorek-King is a native German speaker who is completely bilingual
and has lived in the UK for many years. She has a degree in English (including
Teaching English as A Foreign Language), German and Geography, a PGCE,
and is a fully qualified teacher. She has studied Psychology and has always
had an interest in people, in how they learn and interact, especially
when from different cultures. Her background in teaching includes experience
in pre-school Montessori education, primary and secondary schools as well
as adult education. professional development In her aim to help individual
learners of German learn independently and achieve higher and more specific
language goals than is possible in traditional language courses, Ute pioneered
a concept for a tailor-made distance learning course in 1995 and has been
working with this since, with great success.
Ute
developed an interest in performance coaching in the late 90s as a result
of working with very advanced non-native speakers of English. They often
appeared ‘fluent’ in English and coped satisfactorily, but needed to boost
their skills in order to improve their professional performance.
She discovered the benefits of coaching as a way to enable people to use their own resources, find their own answers and reach their own goals and soon after she started to incorporate aspects of coaching into uwk language courses, she was able to offer skills transfer coaching programmes in addition to language training. uwk coaching, a separate business coaching consultancy was subsequently founded by Ute in 2002.
